I investigate novel biomarkers for FTD using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, currently focusing on markers of neuroinflammation and synaptic dysfunction.
My research project for my masters degree focused on characterising cognitive features of FTD and motor neuron disease, and I learned then how important the development of reliable biomarkers is for the advancement of clinical trials in neurodegenerative diseases.
I have had to develop many different research skills to be able to perform neuroimaging research, which requires a lot of practice, but I have been able to collaborate with many other researchers at several institutions to develop these skills and join a great community.
I am excited by the number of potential disease-modifying treatments that are emerging and hope that by developing the right tools for clinical trials we will see some positive results in the next 5 years.
