About
Aitana is the senior research fellow at University College London in the UK. She is a Race Against Dementia ARUK fellow funded until the end of 2026. She has a BSc in Biology from the University of Alicante and a MSc and PhD in Neuroscience from the Universidad Miguel Hernandez de Elche at Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante.
Her PhD investigated novel biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Disease during which time she spent 3 months at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden learning about the development of ELISAs. After completing her PhD, she moved to London and started her first postdoc at the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) where her main project was to develop fluid biomarkers of microglial activation.
She now holds an Emerging Leader position at the UK DRI. He group focuses on developing novel biomarkers for FTD and with a focus on assessing synaptic and lysosomal dysfunction. Aitana’s work focuses on blood biomarkers through the study of extracellular vesicles in plasma.
