About

Dr Sterre de Boer is a medical doctor and post-doctoral researcher at the Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam, AmsterdamUMC (Netherlands) where she also obtained her PhD in 2024. During her clinical rotation in the psychiatric department, Sterre became intrigued by the symptomatic and diagnostic complexity of FTD. Her interest in FTD research grew during her final years of medical school, leading her to become a research coordinator with the FTD research team at the Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam and to pursue a PhD.

She began working on the international DIPPA-FTD project, a study aiming to accurately distinguish psychiatric disorders from sporadic bvFTD, under the supervision of prof. dr. Yolande Pijnenburg in July 2020. In 2023, as part of the DIPPA-FTD study, she worked at the Brain & Mind Centre of the University of Sydney, Australia, under the supervision of prof. dr. Olivier Piguet where she still holds an honorary affiliation.

Throughout her PhD, Sterre has coordinated the NIC-FTD and DIPPA-FTD consortia and served on the communication team of the International Society of Frontotemporal Dementia (ISFTD). Working as a scientist while still seeing patients and their families is Sterre’s greatest source of inspiration and motivation. She is grateful to have received the Alzheimer Nederland Early Career Grant, enabling her to continue her research and clinical work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam.

Outside of the office, you will find Sterre with her camera taking portraits of her friends or the streets and people of Amsterdam, running or enjoying the canals on her boat Gin & Titonic.
